Welcome to Sierra Safari Zoo!
The animals and zoo members would like to thank the community for an excellent 2010 season. This year has been wonderful for zoo and thats thanks to you. We are now closed for the winter and will be open back to the public on April 1, 2010. Now that we are closed we are kicking off our winter food drive. If you would like to donate there are several ways to do so here.
Sierra Safari has become a fixture of the Reno Sparks community over the last twenty years. Though small it has become the largest zoo in Nevada, with over two-hundred animals of over forty different species. The zoo educates and entertains young and old alike. Some unusual animals reside at the zoo, Sloths, Lemurs, Zebras, Camels, Cavies, and Leopards. The zoo boasts six kinds of monkeys and eight kinds of wild cat including Lions and Tigers. “My dream was to bring the animals I loved together with the children of the area to promote empathy for animals everywhere. I had no idea what even the running of a small facility would entail.” says Dale McDaniel co-founder of the zoo. The zoo is run by over fifty animal loving volunteers. The sheriff’s community work program also helps in running day to day operations.
We are open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. 7 days a week from April 1st to October 31st
Sierra Safari Zoo would like to remind you that the first Monday of every month is FREE admission day!*
Due to current global conditions animals all over are disappearing at an alarming rate. Help us continue educating new generations in animals and their preservation.
