If youre looking for a fun hobby and if you love beer, brewing your own beer could be for you. Nothing tastes as good as a cool brew that you made yourself, and it really isnt hard to do.
Youre going to need some basic equipment that will run you under $200 and just a little room in your basement. Some of the things that you will need to pick up:

Wooden mixing spoons
If your just beginning at the art of brew making, you might want to start with a beer kit. Most kits will give you all the needed ingredients and in the right concentration. The flavor for your brew will come from the fermentables that you will add. Here too, you can experiment to your taste. The combinations are almost endless.
It first step and most important, is that you need to make sure that all of your equipment is sanitized. Most brewing equipment manufacturers will recommend iodine or chlorine solutions for this. Read that user manuals that came with your equipment to find out their recommendations.
After the sterilization, you are set to start. Take 2 quarts of water and fill your brew pot. You will heat this to 180 degrees or until it begins to steam. Remove from heat and add the beer kit ingredients and your fermentables. This procedure can vary so make sure that you follow the recommended instructions that came with your kit.
You will want to slowly stir the mixture until all is dissolved. Once it is, cover the pot and simmer on a low setting for 20 minutes. After 20 minutes, add the wort along with 4 gallons of water. This mixture needs to be stirred for 4 minutes. After the wort has cooled down to the touch, its time to put in the yeast.
OK, now you will need to let this wort mixture do its thing and ferment. The fermentation process will take a minim of five days. You will want to keep the mixture a constant 65 degrees F and also to keep it out of sunlight in a dark place.
After the 5th day you will need to check the brew on a daily basic. Once you see that there are no more air bubble forming, you are now ready to do the bottling. I know you might be anxious at this point, but you dont want to rush things. You need to wait for the fermenting (bobbles) to finish.
The next step is what is referred to as the primary solution and is done before bottling. This is the carbonation of the beer. Take a saucepan with 2 cups of water and cup of dextrose. You will need to slowly bring this to boil on a medium heat. Then have it cool-down for 30 mins before you pour it in the bottling bucket.
You will see a spigot on your fermenting devise, just affix a hose to this and then to your bottling bucket. Once connected simply release the spigot and the beer will be moved over to your bottling bucket. When the fermenter is empty, the hose can be cleaned and the fermenter tossed.
When filling your bottles, its important to leave an inch of air at the top before securing the cap tightly so there are no leaks. You are now ready for the 2nd fermenting. You still do not want to refrigerate quite yet, simple keep it cool, a basement is great out of sunlight. Give it another 2 weeks and you are now ready to ENJOY!
