Reprinted from the: Exhibitor ARTIST OF THE MONTH (VEGAS ARTISTS GUILD March 2004):
Jerry Ommert, portrait artist, accomplished his first credible oil painting in 1959 at the age of 12. He has two Associate Degrees and has been honorably discharged from both the U.S. Air Force and Air National Guard. In 1970 he began his professional career as a lettering and pictorial painter. Jerry has lived and worked in Europe and throughout the United States. In 1996 he sold his graphics company and took a three-year traveling hiatus with his wife Brenda and their hairy-necked son Pooch. Upon resuming his career he decided to concentrate his considerable skills on commissioned oil paintings, specifically portraits. Because painted portraits become a significant part of the subjects legacy, Jerry underscores his dedication to making each commission a reflection of the clients every desire. After 30+ years as a professional painter he still compares his workday to: being paid to eat ice cream.
